Gandhi's childhood
Mahatma Gandhi, also known as Mohandas was born an the second of October 1869 in Porbandar in Gujarat. At the age of 7, Gandhi and his family moved to Rajkot. Gandhi was Hindu so therefore he did not eat meat nor drink wine. We can tell that Mohatma Gandhi was very loyal to Hinduism because when his older brothers offered him meat to eat, he refused as he wanted to go by his religion. Gandhi had 2 brothers and 1 sister. Gandhi was the youngest out these siblings. His two brothers were called Karsandas Gandhi and Raliatbehn Gandhi. His sister was called Laxmidas Karamchand Gandhi. Gandhi's father's name was Karamchand Gandhi and his mother's name was Putlibai Gandhi. Gandhi showed so much respect to his family and despite being the youngest, he was the most mature out of all of them because he followed the steps that his faith took him.
At the age of 16, Gandhi's father had passed away meaning that his family became very poor. Gandhi was not a very clever student at that time and he had already married a girl called Kasturba at the age of 13. They went to the same school. Many thought the marriage was unusual because Kasturba was 14 when they got married and Gandhi was 13. It was firstly unusual to marry a wife who is older than you, but also Gandhi got married at a young age. Despite Even though for us this seems as a young age for us, in India, you could get married at the age of 10. When Gandhi's father died Gandhi decided to go to England and study law so he can bring some money to his family in India. At the time they were poor so Kasturba sold all her jewellery for the money to send Gandhi to study law. As a child, he wanted to study medicine.
